What exactly is HIFU?

HIFU utilizes high intensity focused ultrasound technology to create collagen stimulation deep within the skin. It targets mainly the SMAS layer of the skin to stimulate collagen synthesis, remodeling, regeneration and brings about skin lifting and tightening.

The Ultraformer 3 HIFU is a medical grade HIFU machine. It is the latest 3rd generation HIFU machine that promises less pain with effective results. The Ultraformer 3 HIFU uses both micro and macro focused ultrasound technology.

How is HIFU done?

HIFU is a non-invasive skin lifting and tightening procedure. There are no needles or cuts involved. The skin barrier remains intact throughout the procedure.

Topical numbing cream is first applied to the skin to make the procedure more comfortable. After about 30 minutes, the numbing cream is removed and a layer of gel is applied to the skin. The HIFU handpiece is placed firmly against the skin and HIFU shots are administered throughout the face on appropriate areas to create a good lift. This treatment takes about 30-45 mins and has minimal to zero downtime.

Is the result immediate?

Immediately after the HIFU procedure, a nice skin lift can sometimes be seen. This immediate reaction is usually due to slight swelling on the skin surface. True results from the HIFU treatment will typically take around 1-3 months to fully show.

Is the procedure the same for every patient?

Every patient’s face structure and aging process is different. The treatment will need to be customised according to the patient’s needs in order to deliver the best lifting results. Ultraformer 3 HIFU transducers come in 1.5mm, 3.0mm, 4.5mm depths. A good physician will be able to customise an appropriate treatment protocol for each patient in order to achieve optimal skin lifting results.

Can I apply make up after the treatment?

Yes! The skin barrier is not breached from the treatment. HIFU beams are targeted below the skin’s surface and the top layer is left untouched.

What can I expect after the treatment?

This HIFU face lift treatment is a minimal downtime procedure. One can go about their daily activities immediately after the procedure. No special care is needed. In certain individuals, the skin may appear flushed immediately after the procedure but this usually disappears within a few hours. If intense treatment was done, some may experience slight aches or swell over the treated areas for a few days.

How long do the results last?

HIFU results typically last about a year. A touch up session between 9-12 months is great for maintenance and helps to prolong results. For patients who have a greater degree of sagging skin, an additional session at 4-6 months can further improve results.

Will this give similar results to a surgical face lift?

No, the surgical face lift is more invasive and will likely create more lift and drastic results compared to the HIFU.

Will I look unnatural after the HIFU treatment?

Absolutely not. The HIFU treatment does not change facial features nor alter muscle movements and facial expressions.  The HIFU treatment merely aims to regenerate what was lost through aging. It creates lifting and collagen synthesis. The outcome is usually a more refreshed appearance.

Can I combine HIFU with any other treatments?

Yes. HIFU can be combined with botox and fillers to further improve results. Botox can help to further smooth out active expression lines. Fillers can help to fill out sunken areas that require more lift or contouring.

The number of shots administered ( 600-1000 shots is a good range), appropriate high energy levels, the size of the area treated and patient factors all play apart in achieving good results with HIFU.
